RANGERS LEADING THE WAY WITH IMPROVEMENTS

Over the past few years, Nathan Hale has seen a flurry of bond improvements in the building. The Library has been expanded and updated. Two new science labs have been built and locker room facilities for all sports have been upgraded. Bond monies have provided new paint, new floor tile and a central heat and air upgrade throughout the building. Outside, new windows have been installed and a new roof put on.  We are in the process of completing our upgrade with new exterior doors.

There are many more projects in the works.  We are not nearly finished in our quest to restore Hale to its original pride and glory.  This article will highlight our progress so far and plans for the future, as we continue our pursuit of educational excellence.

LIBRARY EXPANSION

The Nathan Hale library underwent a major transformation over the summer of 2004.  Construction started in June and over the course of the summer, the library was renovated and brought up to a new standard.

When it re-opened in October of the 04-05 school year, the students walked into what can be called a "cybrary"; fully functional with all new technological capabilities.  Diana Doyle, the Media Specialist here at Hale since 1983 says that "our new library is a clean and safe learning environment, where students can be introduced to learning the new art of cyber research."

During orientations, Ms. Doyle introduces up and coming Rangers to the library arrange- ment and the many resources that the new library has to offer, like the online card catalog
or OPAC (Online Patron Access Catalog) and ERIC research database for teachers.  The orientation also covers internet safety and encourages students to 'start @ their library.'

NEW SCIENCE LABS

In 2002 we started what was to be the first of two upgrades to the science department.
A chemistry lab was built to compliment the learning process of the students.  With online capabilities the students are able to analyze data while the teacher oversees their work, thanks to new networked computers in the classroom.  The lab was also equipped with a digital microscope that allows the entire class to view slides.

During the summer of 2004, a second lab was added to the science wing.  The new biology lab has separate lecture and lab areas.  The biology lab is equipped to introduce students to the world of forensic science and investigation.  Both labs are wheelchair accessible and are equipped with goggle sanitation stations.

LOCKER ROOMS & COACHES OFFICES

Sports are on the move here at Hale and the renovations to the sports areas are a great way to kick off the new year!

The locker room facilities were completely renovated, including girls soccer, and all of the football locker rooms.  New changing areas were built for the swimming pool, and the softball and baseball areas were improved as well.

The weight room received new paint and floors and the equipment room was improved, thanks to a donation to our sports program.  New locker rooms were also built for both boys and girls basketball.  Our fitness center has been painted and a training room is in the works for our athletes.

The coaches were also treated to new offices and upgrades to help them in their pursuit of building good athletes and better students here at Hale.
