Rangers rebound: Hale, which began last year 5-1, snapped a six-game losing streak with its 24-12 win over Webster on Thursday.

The Rangers were jolted just before the season by the loss of five projected senior starters who were suspended under Tulsa Public Schools guidelines, according to coach Kevin Busch. All five may miss the entire season. Among those are tailback-linebacker Kenny King, who had 750 rushing yards and 10 TDs last year.

That left Hale with only three senior starters. Hale has 88 players, but 68 of those are freshmen or sophomores.

One of Hale's seniors is wideout-cornerback William Johnson, who scored twice against Webster.  "He's only 5-4, but he's one of the toughest kids in the state," Busch said. "He's a Friday night warrior. But he's also a very good student and is involved in student government."

Cox Cable channel 3 will broadcast  the Hale vs. Bixby game live at 7:30pm on October 19th, with a pre-game show beginning at 7 pm.

RANGERS BEAT CENTRAL IN 1ST ROUND ALL-CITY TOURNAMENT

Tulsa World:  Hale 18, Central 12: The Rangers overcame a 12-0 deficit with 18 second quarter points to pull out an exciting win.

The winning play was a trick play. Robert Owens took the ball on an apparent reverse. Owens did his job selling the run, then stopped and hit a wide-open William Johnson in the end zone. Johnson had to go to his knees, but still made the grab.

Hale got the chance to win when Anthony Guaderrama recovered a Central fumble with 1:33 left. Just seconds earlier, Ranger back Jeremy Harbin scored from 2-yards and then added the two-point conversion to trail 12-10. Hale added a safety when Central batted the ball out of the end zone.

Central took its early lead when Deandre Pope scored on a 2-yard run. The Braves went up 12-0 when Jamal Bryant rambled 30 yards on a fumble return.
