Future Educators
Association is the former Future Teachers of America organization.
The Oklahoma Commission recognizes that there will be a tremendous loss of
teachers throughout the nation; there-fore, they have joined with NEA to
build the organization to encourage more young people to go into
teaching. The primary focus of this organization is to inform students
about teaching as a career. The Future Education Association is the only
national pre-collegiate program for prospective careers in education.
The National Education
Association initiated a Future Teachers Association program during the
first half of the last century. Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) is the parent
organization that offers three scholarships each year to students who plan
to go into the field of education. There are approximately 1,000
organizations throughout the United States, England, Germany, Italy,

Freshman Councilor
All Freshmen are enrolled in LEAP (Leadership, Education, and
Achievement Program). This is a program through the Oklahoma State
Regents for Higher Education. Twelve teachers and the Freshman
Councilor went through special training to teach this new curriculum.
Each class also has a Senior mentor in the classroom to help. These
Seniors applied for their positions last year at enrollment time.
Through this program, the kids have four units: Who Am I – Aiming for
Success, Connecting with Others, The Future I Want, and My Plan for
Success. We also bring in various guest speakers. Our goal is to
encourage the Freshmen to be more focused on succeeding in school and
looking at their future.
Fall Community Service Project

Each LEAP class
sponsored one US Marine in Unit 73301. They are currently
stationed in Hit, Iraq.
Each class put
together a list of requested items. The items were boxed and
shipped out on November 17th, so that each soldier would receive their
box in time for Christmas.
